40 Year Anniversary of Jackson Welcoming It's First Patient

As July comes to a close, Jackson Recovery Centers is reminded of a very special time in its history.  On July 7, 1977, Jackson welcomed its first patient, a young woman from Nebraska.  Since that time, Jackson has helped tens of thousands of adolescents, adults and families begin their recovery journey.

Dr. William "Bill" Jackson and his wife Marienne founded Jackson Recovery Centers, Inc. in August 1976.  At the time, Siouxland had addiction treatment options for adults, but lacked specific addiction services for adolescents. Marienne and Bill's love of children and their commitment to Siouxland demanded that the lack of adolescent addiction services be addressed. With their passion and dedication, and the help of many generous community members the first residential program for children and adolescents in the state of Iowa was created.

“I’m thrilled to help make Bill and Marienne’s dream come true,” said Kermit Dahlen, Jackson’s President and CEO.  “Together with our talented, committed and professional staff members we are saving lives each and every day.”

Four decades after admitting its first patient, Jackson Recovery Centers has grown and now offers a full continuum of integrated, recovery supportive substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorder services in seven northwest Iowa counties.
