Title: EMDR Tools for PTSD/Trauma Patients
Date/Time: Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 – 8:45am -12:00pm (one – 15 minute break)
Location: Kermit Dahlen Training Center – 3500 W. 4th Street – Sioux City, IA

Audience:
Substance abuse counselors, social workers, mental health counselors, nurses, recovery counselors and interested human services professionals.

Purpose:
Humans have experienced traumatic events since the beginning of existence, and PTSD has been a formal diagnosis since the 1980’s. Identifying specific diagnostic criteria and brain imaging technology has been very beneficial in better understanding this condition, however, effectively treating patients who suffer from traumatic events has been difficult. EMDR is an evidenced-based intervention that has been shown to be extremely effective for individuals who have experienced traumatic events. While EMDR is not a “cure” for PTSD, many patients effected by trauma have experienced a substantial alleviation of symptoms, and for some, a complete remission due to EMDR interventions.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will know:
• Definitions of psychological trauma and PTSD
• Screening/Assessment tools for trauma
• Diagnostic criteria for PTSD
• Theoretical framework for EMDR
• How EMDR works when treating patients with PTSD and other mental health issues
• How EMDR works for crisis intervention
• Resources for EMDR training, certification, and referrals
