Employee Trainings

Audience:
Substance abuse counselors, social workers, mental health counselors, nurses, recovery counselors and interested human services professionals.

Purpose:
The purpose of this training is to make the participants familiar with the risk factors and warning signs of human trafficking, to examine the role of substance abuse both prior to human trafficking victimization and during it and to learn what human trafficking looks like in our area and what can and is being done about it. A discussion will be held towards the end of the workshop to get feedback from the audience on this issue.

Objectives:
During this workshop we’ll:
• Identify the risk factors for human trafficking.
• Learn indicators that a person has been trafficked.
• Examine the role of substance abuse both prior to human trafficking victimization and during it
• Learn about the characteristics of human trafficking victims and how that leads to a lack of good statistics on human trafficking cases.

Faculty:
Linda Holub and Bernadette Rixner are Co-Chairs of the Siouxland Coalition against Human Trafficking (SCAHT). SCAHT is an all volunteer group which was formed in July of 2014. The mission of the Coalition is to work toward abolishing all forms of human trafficking through education, collaboration, and advocacy. SCAHT’s primary focus has been on education, with the goals of prevention and mobilizing the public to know what to look for and what to do to both prevent human trafficking.
Anne Boatright, MSN, RN, SANE, is a Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) and is currently the State Forensic Nursing Coordinator and Sexual Assault Payment Program Administrator at the Office of the Attorney General. Anne strives to create a best practice standard in the state of Nebraska so victims of crime may receive the same care regardless of their location within the state. She previously headed up the Methodist Forensic Nurse Examiner Program at Methodist Health System in Omaha. She and other members of the team cared for victims of sexual assault, strangulation, domestic violence, and human trafficking. Anne has served as a member of state and county response teams and continually strives for the best standard of care for sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking victims. Anne worked to integrate the FNE/SANE programs and standards of care within the Nebraska Human trafficking task force to ensure that all aspects of response for victims are covered. Prior to her work as a SANE, Anne specialized in Emergency-Trauma Nursing in Omaha. She has also worked as a Medical Intensive Care Unit Nurse in Chicago, Illinois.
