Responsible Gaming Week

Did you know that Jackson Recovery Centers’ Prevention and Education staff go to the casino during the day? It’s true. Jackson and the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino work in cooperation to promote responsible gambling in Sioux City. Jackson Recovery Centers regularly provides information and education services to Hard Rock patrons about responsible gaming, as well as work with staff members on how to identify and deal with problem gamblers.

Responsible Gaming Week 2017 is July 31 – August 4. During this time, Prevention staff members will be present at the Hard Rock to raise awareness of gambling disorders and provide resources to those who may be experiencing problems. Research has shown that being provided with information and education helps people to follow responsible gambling guidelines such as:

Money lost is the price of entertainment.
You only bet what you have identified as money that you can afford to lose.
Winnings are considered a bonus.
Don’t gamble as a way to cope with your problems.
Don’t gamble with credit or borrowed money.
Individuals who are experiencing problems with gambling, and are unable to follow these guidelines, do have the option of entering into either a 5-year-long or Lifetime-long “self-exclusion contract.” This self-ban from Iowa’s 19 licensed casinos may be completed at any of these casinos, at any gambling counseling treatment center, or accessed online at www.iowagaming.org/responsible_gaming/self-exclusion.aspx This program is affiliated with the Iowa Gaming Association and prohibits the participant from entering any IGA affiliated casino grounds statewide.

During Responsible Gaming Week, Jackson Recovery Prevention staff will work to deliver a message of hope to those with gambling problems and provide them with resources they need to improve their lives.
